Hello again,
Here are some more pictures from our trip to Italy this past spring.
While staying in Sorrento, we visited the ruins of the city of Pompeii.
Pompeii was a thriving commercial port of 20,000 that was buried under
30 feet of hot mud and volcanic ash from the 79 A.D.
erruption of Mount Vesuvious (the beautiful mountain in the background
of the pictures). The hot mud & volcanic ash turned to stone and froze
the city in time. Pompeii was rediscovered in the 1600s and excavations
began in 1748. It has taught archaeologists almost everything they know
about ancient daily Roman life.
After visiting the city itself, we went to Naples Archaeological Museum
to see some of the artwork that was recovered from Pompeii. In Naples,
the birthplace of pizza, we enjoyed the best & cheapest pizza in all of
Italy. Naples is Italy's third largest city and Europe's most densly
populated sity and a tourist city by no means. Naples offered us our
best look into "true" southern Italian city living (poverty, trash,
laundry, pizza, noisy vespas).
Have a good day,
Chase & Karissa

Hey everyone,
In March, we had a wonderful vacation to Italy. We were able to travel
around and see a lot of this beautiful country. We have so many pictures
(800 or so) that I thought I would send out a few of our favorite
pictures weekly from the places we visited.
We began our trip in Sorrento, Italy. After flying into Rome, we took a
4 hour bus ride south to Sorrento. Sorrento has a 1970s Hollywood resort
town feel to it. It's where the rich come to play.
The small town (30,000 residents) sits along a cliff overlooking the
Mediterranean Sea about an hour south of Naples. It is a perfect place
to stroll in a clean Italian village and relax, taking in the beautiful
views of the bay of Naples, while eyeing Mount Vesuvius in the
background. We stayed about ten minutes up the hill outside of town.
Included are pictures of our room and balcony which captured a beautiful
view of the bay. The sunrises were a sight to behold in the mornings.
For once, it was easy for me to wake up early!! Seafood, pizza, homemade
pasta, and gelato (Italian ice cream) were our meals of choice in this
Southern Italian town.
Hope you enjoyed...more to come!!
